Dental Bridges in Calgary, Alberta

What is a dental bridge?

No, this is not the Peace Bridge in Calgary. The Canadian Dental Association describes a dental bridge as, “a dental restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth”. Named for the way that they “bridge” the gaps between teeth lost to trauma or decay, bridges help support the structure of your mouth by placing durable artificial teeth where your natural teeth are missing. Would It not be the best picture having you smiling, with newly bridged teeth, on the Peace Bridge?

Is there more than one option for a dental bridge?

Our dentists will recommend you the bridge choice based on your budget and oral history. If there are natural teeth on either side of the gap where the tooth is missing, you may be able to use a traditional bridge. If they are deemed suitable to support the bridge, the two existing teeth are filed down and prepared for a type of dental crown. After this, a custom-made artificial tooth is fused between both crowns to form the bridge. This bridge is semi-permanent and should only be removed by a dental professional such as your dentist in Calgary.

If your teeth are not suitable for anchoring the bridge, or there are several teeth missing, the dental bridge may be anchored to dental implants which are surgically placed into the jawbone.

Resin-bonded bridges are typically used at the front of the mouth and they involve artificial teeth fused together to a metal band which is cemented to the back of the natural teeth. This can be done if the surrounding teeth will offer suitable enough support without risking significant damage. Additionally, a cantilever bridge can be used in instances where only one side of the mouth has healthy teeth.

How long does a dental bridges last?

With proper care of your bridge, including regular brushing and flossing, a dental bridge should generally last for about ten years.
