Porcelain Inlays / Onlays in Calgary, Alberta

What is a porcelain inlays / onlays?

Instead of a traditional filling, each inlay or onlay are made in a dental lab. The patient returns for a second appointment to bond the inlay or onlay onto the tooth. An inlay is when the material is placed within the tooth and an onlay is when the material is placed on the tooth’s entire biting surface.

Why should I choose an inlay or onlay?

Porcelain inlays / onlays provide a strong and attractive alternative to composite bonded fillings. An inlay or onlay is often used for teeth requiring a major portion of the tooth restored but does not require the extensive tooth preparation one might encounter with a crown. They are made from the same strong, tooth-colored material as you’d find with a dental crown or a dental bridge.

What is the procedure for an inlay or onlay placement?

The procedure for an inlay or onlay takes place over two separate visits. The first appointment is all about the preparation and will include an impression of the tooth being sent to a lab in Calgary for production. You will receive a temporary version while you wait for the permanent solution to arrive from the lab.

Once we are in receipt of your beautiful and brand new inlay or onlay, we bring you in for your second appointment. The permanent solution is then affixed to your tooth and bonded into place for a secure fit.
